 [Microcontent](https://www.lemonly.com/work?category=microcontent)Hike! On by! Straight ahead! Every March, dozens of mushers take off for the Iditarod — the legendary dog sled race spanning more than 1,000 miles of Alaskan wilderness.

We crunched the numbers looking at finishing times from every year of the Iditarod, and the data shows impressive gains since the race began in 1973. The Iditarod has gotten dramatically faster each decade, with a record finishing time of 7 days and 14 hours by Dallas Seavey in 2021. Check out more highlights in our infographic below.
