The challenge

Communicate the importance of testing water pipes for lead contamination and completing an online survey to South Dakota residents.

We partnered with Bartlett & West and the South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources to educate South Dakotans about testing their water pipes for lead. For the campaign, Lemonly created an animated video, a one-pager series, and a bundle of static and animated microcontent. These materials explain the importance of checking your pipes and provide clear instructions for conducting the inspection and uploading the results to the online survey.

The results

Thousands

of South Dakota residents reached with fliers, videos, social media posts, and more

196

water system records received

345

"Likely Lead" service lines identified by customers across the state

The Lemonly team did a great job of taking a complex topic and making it understandable. They were extremely organized and efficient. Lemonly was a huge part of moving the campaign along in a compressed timeline.

Why it worked

Lemonly’s “Clue”-inspired theme uses engaging visuals and a clear, clever script to help viewers understand the health risks of lead contamination and what they can do to keep themselves safe. In various pieces across the campaign, illustrated characters gather supplies and perform the inspection to help viewers understand how to complete the survey.

Throughout the project, the Lemonly team leveraged assets from the animated explainer video to efficiently create cohesive content while emphasizing the importance of finding lead lines in South Dakota.
