The challenge

Educate Simplot salespeople and their customers on current foodservice trends in a way that’s snackable, shareable, and easy to digest.

Simplot’s marketing team had a buffet full of rich foodservice industry research. But its salespeople often wondered where to begin, let alone how to deliver the data to operators hungry for fresh insights. By replacing previously inconsistent communications with a clear quarterly newsletter, we served up craveable content for the sales team and their customers.

I really appreciate that I can hand over multiple studies, and the team at Lemonly is able to synthesize the data and come up with clear insights that are then delivered in a fun and easy-to-understand format. We have so much data at our fingertips, but the distillation is so important to making a good story.

The work

Lemonly partnered with Simplot to design and produce “Business Bites” — a quarterly infographic newsletter series that makes Simplot and its industry insights feel approachable and fun. Each infographic covered a seasonal theme and was accompanied by a presentation deck and two static microcontent pieces.

Illustrated data visualization

Blending on-brand visuals with foodservice data, we made each infographic look as flavorful as the food it featured. The balance of playful illustrations and a legible layout made each newsletter legitimately enjoyable to read.

Scalable template

Each issue followed a familiar format: seasonal trends up top, illustrated data highlights throughout, and a recipe feature to close. That consistent structure set clear expectations with the reader and made the design easy to repeat and scale.

Q1 infographic

The first issue served several purposes: It announced “Business Bites” as a replacement for the previous newsletter, it asked for feedback from salespeople, and it delivered immediate value with simple, actionable data. The fresh format was well received, setting the table for a series with serious staying power.

Q2 infographic

The spring issue broadened the audience to all foodservice operators, positioning Simplot as an industry leader to potential customers. With a spotlight on quick-service restaurants, this issue shared trends, takeaways, and even a recipe for Alabama BBQ fries (with a subtle plug for one of Simplot’s own products).

Q3 infographic

The fall issue turned the focus to a growing pressure for full-service operators: off-premise dining. Sprinkling in useful stats and practical tips, this newsletter encouraged operators to take an omnichannel approach to protect food quality while reaching younger customers, wherever they prefer to dine.

Why it worked

To properly equip its salespeople, Simplot needed content that was clear, consistent, and consumable. Lemonly’s infographics helped Simplot’s strategy shift from reactive to proactive, transforming its sporadic communications into a quarterly playbook its sales team could count on.

The new format proved to be the perfect blend of seasonal themes, strategic insights, and appetizing visuals. It didn’t just build trust with customers — it built a repeatable, scalable system Simplot can use for years to come.
